Accuracy of DOD casualty counts?

Rumors have been floating about regarding accurate casualty counts. People are claiming that the 1,782 KIAs (number increases every day) in Iraq are ONLY those who actually die on Iraq soil. If they make it to Germany or America and then die from their injuries, they are not counted in the casualty lists. It's been stated that the numbers may be closer to 9,000 American deaths and citizens are looking into it.

In the meantime, to copy the actions of a dear friend of mine, I encourage all to contact their representatives in Congress (I suggest Congress.org) with the following request:

Please verify whether the following quote has some basis in fact. American citizens deserve to know if military personnel who die in German hospitals or en route to German hospitals are indeed excluded from the total number of fatalities of the Iraq occupation.

"U.S. Military Personnel who died in German hospitals or en route to German hospitals have not previously been counted. They total about 6,210 as of 1 January, 2005. The ongoing underreporting of the dead in Iraq is not accurate. The DoD is deliberately reducing the figures. A review of many foreign news sites show that actual deaths are far higher than the newly reduced ones. Iraqi civilian casualties are never reported but International Red Cross, Red Crescent and UN figures indicate that as of 1 January 2005, the numbers are just under 100,000."

I look forward to your response.

Actually, there's a method to this madness also. I save all of the maddening, useless responses from my senator/representative to use when they are up for reelection. I know they're just replies from minions, but there must be some sort of overview to the response.

Oh definately! SAVE THEIR RESPONSES! From past experiences, their letters are just canned vegetables with little thought to the actual question given... it will be good information to have come time for elections!
